UN:Me: A Cerebral Horror Merging Survival Horror with Among Us Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled a number of intriguing upcoming titles, but one especially has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure appears to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive experience where a young woman containing multiple human souls within her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of high school age. Inside her exist four separate personas, each with unique fears and motivations. These entities can take over at will, releasing their innermost phobias upon her suddenly.

Based on showcased footage, much of the action takes place within a creepy hospital, though other scenes depict the protagonist navigating a abandoned church.

A World of Individual Horror

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. People in power. Elements that seem trivial to others can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are unique to every individual."

The core mechanic involves managing the persona that emerges at any given time. However, these souls will switch against your will as you play. While exploring, every persona's fears become exaggerated and attack the protagonist one after another. When the soul changes, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Deadly Choice

Initially, UN:Me shares striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is populated by orderlies who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Patients in the waiting room have enormous blooms growing from their necks should be. Flowers are an ever-present theme, contrasting organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "true" one. "Each of the souls claims that the physical form is rightfully them," notes a developer. "During the game, you must determine who is real."

Once players believes a soul is fake, they are forced to destroy it. But, because each soul can deceive or obfuscate the reality, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The last one remaining could be a fraud. In any case, your choices are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced release date, but it is available to follow on digital storefronts.
