President Trump Invites Loved Ones of Shot National Guard Soldiers to White House
Former President Trump revealed on the weekend that he has invited the relatives of a Guard member killed last week to visit the White House.
He noted that he contacted her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Tragic Event
US army specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Memorials across the state have occurred in their memory.
White House Call
The president said he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the parents of both individuals of the state National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president informed the press. “And similarly with Andrew, recover or not.”
Public Response
Attendees came together over the weekend at the high school in the state to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s national effort to assist law enforcement in the capital.
Honoring the Soldier
“Sarah was the kind of student that educators wished for. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s former high school, informed the Associated Press. “She was kind, compassionate and always ready to support those in need.”
Funeral arrangements for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Legal Measures and Government Adjustments
Authorities have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of murder and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The incident led the administration to halt asylum applications and cease providing entry permits to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of Wolfe
The airman, a resident of the city, started his military career in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, per the Associated Press.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor the governor mentioned on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on a news show that she also intended to meet with his relatives.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a MP with distinction, according to the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had bravery,” Morrisey addressed the audience at the memorial. “Though her life was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
