Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed operations across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone near the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any damage is not yet known and the United States has remained silent.

Regional Interceptions

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - stated they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their air space.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the UAE stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," it added.

Officials reported missile fragments fell on a populated district in the capital, causing some material damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
