Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers introduced a new game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few notable adjustments:
- Every squad has just eight real players, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities done by real players award complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives more options for players seeking different ways to have fun with the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are upset.
Community Reactions: Anger to Support
"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while another lists everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Criticisms and Community Input
All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
