Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Substantial Renewal for Two More Seasons.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the channel unveiled a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often marked by dark humor, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."
A President's Endorsement
Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and supported its uniquely offbeat style.
"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about watching this endearing family go about their daily lives.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
Future Seasons
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to bask in the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
